Jets practice
was inside today in Florham Park.
Was surprised by this. I showed up at the team’s training complex, with the intent of covering practice, and was informed by the security guard at the gate that they were practicing inside. The media is only allowed to cover outside practices this year.
It was 47 degrees at the time.
Guess what? That is exactly the high temperature in the forecast for Sunday in Seattle.
So why go inside?
Going inside on Wednesday made sense, since it was snowing during practice, and the ground was slippery.
But today, I have no idea why they went inside.
Bill Belichick usually takes his team outside in bad weather to harden the meddle of his team . . .
It might’ve been a manufactured tiff to help Jamal Adams get traded.
Before Adams was traded to Seattle, he ripped Gase in the Daily News.
“I don’t feel like he’s the right leader for this organization to reach the Promised Land,” Adams told Manish Mehta. “As a leader, what really bothers me is that he doesn’t have a relationship with everybody in the building.”
Gase said his week he was surprised by this.
“I thought [our relationship] was good, but obviously he felt different,” Gase said. “I don’t know. I never had a poor interaction with him. He was somebody I talked to a lot and communicated with. Once the offseason [starts], I’m not in charge of contracts. I’m not involved in those talks.”
The Jets finished 6-2 in their last eight games last year, so why was Adams so dismayed with Gase during this past off-season? Hey, it’s obvious now, after the way this season is going, that a coaching change is probably going to happen, but Adams’ comment came after the Jets finished strong last year.
I tend to side with Gase on this one. I never heard or saw a problem between the two. On the practice field, I noticed many a lighted hearted exchange between the two. Gase would go over to Adams all the time at practice to chat.
Adams made these comments in late July. His contract dispute started in March. If Gase was such a sticking point with him, why would this not come up from March-June, while this drama was playing out in the media and on social media?
If a player wanted to be traded because he hated the coach, why would the player, or his camp, wait so long to bring this up?
Remember, Adams also ripped Joe Douglas in the same Daily News article.
This was probably part of this scorched earth campaign to get out.
So how has this traded worked out for both sides?
Well, obviously the Seahawks are getting more out of it now. Adams leads them in sacks.
As for the Jets side, their pass defense has been bad this year, but it was bad with Adams, and Seattle’s pass defense isn’t very good either.
The first-round pick the Jets got from Seattle in 2021 in the trade, looks like it might be higher than expected. The Seahawks have struggled recently, and currently own the 23rd pick of the first round, which is probably a little higher than most expected. The Jets also got a 2021 third-round pick, and they got a #1 pick next year.
The bottom line is this was a good trade for both teams.
